Alvor is a seaside tourist and fishing village in the Algarve, the southernmost region of Portugal. This fishing village with maritime origins is deeply religious. The 16th-century Mother Church rises above the historic centre, and the 3 Islamic aislets (morabitos) evoke the Moorish heritage of the area.

Located on the western part of the southern coast of Portugal, Alvor’s main economic activities are fishing, catering, trade and tourism. The traditional Algarve houses, narrow and small streets make this a quiet and worry-free holiday destination.

The wetlands of the Alvor estuary provide a habitat for resident and migratory birds, where its main portico of great decorative wealth stands out, has always been subject to the misfortunes of faina and misfortunes of the sea.

This charming town still retains many of its Moorish roots due to the fact that the region has been controlled by Moors for several centuries. Alvor’s own name is very similar to his old Mooring name: Al-Bûr.
