About Loures*:

On October 10, 1833, a battle was fought in the fields of Loures between the liberal and Miguelist armies (Conspiracy of the Marnotas)[5] with the victory of the former. [6] The municipality was created by Royal Decree of 26 July 1886, following the extinction of the municipality of Olivais.

In the history of Loures, it is also worth noting the fact that here, the implantation of the Republic preceded the rest of the country by one day: it was on October 4, 1910 that the republicans of Loures proclaimed the establishment of the new regime, in the Town Hall. It also has historical relevance for the Carnation Revolution, because at the time, the Pontinha Barracks, located in the homonymous parish, was located in the municipality of Loures.

On November 19, 1998, seven of the then 25 parishes of the municipality, which were located in the southwestern part of the municipality, disintegrated administratively, to give rise to a new municipality, which was named after the larger parish, Odivelas. Currently, the municipality of Loures has 18 parishes.

Currently, there is a movement that defends another division of the municipality, centred around the city of Sacavém, defending the creation of the municipality of Sacavém, formed by the ten parishes of the eastern part of the current municipality of Loures. It is not a new movement, dating back to the establishment of the Republic, but it gained new impetus with the creation of the municipality of Odivelas.

In 2012, with the Administrative Reform of Lisbon, there was a change in boundaries that placed the entire area of Parque das Nações within the municipality of Lisbon, forming the new parish of Parque das Nações[7], a change long desired by the inhabitants of the area. This change represented the reduction of the territory of the parishes of Moscavide and Sacavém, in the municipality of Loures, and Santa Maria dos Olivais (municipality of Lisbon).
