Avenida da Boavista is a street that crosses the parishes of Cedofeita, Massarelos, Lordelo do Ouro, Ramalde, Aldoar and Nevogilde, in the city of Porto, Portugal. It is the longest avenue in the city and the second largest in the country, only behind Avenida Infante Dom Henrique, in Lisbon, which is 12km long.
It is about five thousand five hundred meters long, extending in a straight line from the Military Hospital of Porto to the Praça de Gonçalves Zarco, known as Castelo do Queijo, popular designation of the old fort of São Francisco Xavier, by the sea.
Until the mid-twentieth century, the avenue was an authentic avenue with two rows of leafy plane trees that ended up being sacrificed to facilitate car traffic. Recent and occasionally controversial changes have given a new look to the avenue, in which some examples of good architecture survive, but from where many trees have disappeared from the central separator.
New economic and cultural centrality of the city of Porto, along the avenue there is everything, office buildings, hotels, shopping areas, residential areas many of them luxurious as well as a commercial area, where there are some of the most renowned stores in the city and the country.
