’Ferreira do Alentejo, also known only as Ferreira, is a Portuguese village belonging to the district of Beja, Alentejo region and sub-region of Baixo Alentejo.
The village of Ferreira do Alentejo is located about 24 km from the city of Beja, capital of the District, in the west direction. It is located on a small elevation, at about 141 m of altitude, near the Charneca da Asseiceira and the Planalto das Naves, a region of vast plains.

It is located on the right bank of the Ribeira de Safrino, a tributary of the Ribeira da Figueira, which in turn flows into the Sado River. The soils are mainly from the Tertiary Period. Another watercourse that passes in the vicinity of Ferreira do Alentejo is the Vale de Ouro stream.
The region of Ferreira do Alentejo is essentially agricultural, producing mainly cereals, olive oil, cork, wine and woolly cattle. It has an industry based on wool, olive oil mills and dairy products, highlighting its cheese production. Enquadramento histórico:

As origens da ocupação humana no território do concelho de Ferreira do Alentejo remontam ao final do Neolítico, como atesta o espólio arqueológico abundantemente encontrado ao longo das margens da ribeira de Vale d´ouro e no povoado do Porto Torrão.
O concelho foi doado em 1233 à Ordem de Santiago da Espada que construiu, na zona mais alta e estratégica de Ferreira, um imponente castelo. Porém, em 1838, por deliberação da Junta de Paróquia, o castelo, já arruinado, foi demolido e, no seu lugar, construiu-se o cemitério público.
Dependente, espiritualmente, do bispado de Évora, só em época mais tardia se definiu a circunscrição administrativa autónoma pelo floral da Leitura Nova, concedido em Lisboa a 5 de Março de 1516 por D. Manuel I.
O topónimo da vila está intimamente ligado a uma tradição popular, a lenda da cidade de Singa, que afirma que por volta do século V uma valorosa mulher, esposa de um ferreiro, defendeu o povoado dos invasores bárbaros.
